Overhead

I am looking to buy the iLinc and use it with my ISY. Looks like a great package.

I only have one concern/question. While I like that iLinc stays in sync with the ISY, I would like to know how that is achieved? I hope it is not by continous polling, etc as I don't want a bunch of overhead on my network or the ISY.

Hi jwagner010,

iLinc stays in sync with ISY by way of a subscription channel. iLinc does not poll for information, rather the ISY has a subscription feature built into ISY where a network device such as iLinc can subscribe to the ISY network services. When a change occurs, IE light turns on, ISY sends a small update packet to registered devices (iLinc). iLinc in turn is simply listening for data and updates its internal status with the update packet.

The subscription feature is a fast, low overhead way to achieve near real-time status updates. It is equivalent to opening a secure port on your computer and listening for data.

Got it thanks. Makes a lot of sense. Therefore only time information hits the network is on an event/trigger with my lighting. No polling, etc. Thanks

Hi jwagner010,

No problem. Thanks for the opportunity to go into some under-the-hood details.
